Open:  The presence and power of the beast [Daniel 7:7, Revelations 20:10]

 

I.        The Ancient of Days

          A.     (v9) “The Ancient of Days took his seat” –Authority.  He is on the throne.

                  1.      “His clothing was white as snow.” –purity [also Revelations 1:14]

                  2.      “The hair of his head like pure wool.” –wisdom

                  3.      “His throne was fiery flames” –unapproachable OR the place of purification

 

          B.     (v10) “A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence.”

                  1.      “A thousand thousands served him and ten thousand times ten thousand”

                  2.      “The court sat in judgment and the books were opened.”  [Revelations 20:12]

                           a.    From Rosh Hashanah to Yom Kippur, the Ten Days of Repentance

                           b.    2 Corinthians 5:10, 21—The One who makes our plea

 

          C.     (v11) The horn [a king from the menacing empire] was speaking—Arrogant [v25]

                  1.      “As I looked, the beast was killed and its body destroyed.”

                  2.      (v12) “As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away.”

                          

II.       One Like a Son of Adam

          A.     (v13) “One like a son of Adam coming with the clouds” [Matthew 26:64, Acts 1:9-11, Revelations 1:7]

                  1.      1 Thessalonians 5:16-17, Coming judgment and deliverance from heaven

                  2.      “He came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.”

 

          B.     (v14) “To him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom”

                  1.      “That all people, nations, and languages should serve him” [1 Corinthians 15:24-25, Philippians 2:9-11]

                  2.      “His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away.”

                  3.      (v18) “The saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess it forever.”

 

          C.     From Antiochus Epiphanes IV to Jerusalem/Masada, and from pogroms to holocausts.

 

Conclusion:   How is it ever true that “the meek shall inherit the earth”?

                        How does a faith with so many martyrs survive?
