In The Garden – Part 1

“In the Garden: Part 1” – Genesis 2:25-3:13

 

Open:  “Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.”

 

I.        The Serpent Deceives and Divides

          A.     The Serpent twists God’s words (v.1) Did God really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden?

 

          B.     The Serpent creates room for doubt (v.4) You will not certainly die.

 

          C.     The Serpent compares to cause division (v.5) For God knows that when you eat from it…you will be like god.

 

II.       The Human Reasons and Retreats

          A.     Eve adds to God’s words (v.3) You must not eat from the tree, and you must not touch it.

 

          B.     Eve makes sense of her decision (v.6) Then the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was…all good.

 

          C.     They feel shame for the first time (v.7) Then the eyes of both of them were opened and the covered up.

 

          D.     They fear God and hide (v.8) They heard the sound of God so they hid among trees of the garden.

 

III.      The Creator Confronts and Comforts

          A.     God questions Adam and Eve (v.9) The Lord called to the man, Where are you?

 

          B.     God explains the consequences of their choice (v.14-19) God announced the curses.

 

          C.     God provides for their needs (v.21) Then God made garments for Adam and Eve and clothed them.

 

          D.     God protects them from future doom (v.22) They must not be allowed to eat from the tree of life and live forever.
